So we decided that the fence had to be replaced.
Correction: The fence has needed replacing for years, but we were hoping a hurricane would take it and we could claim insurance. But our neighbors lost their dog when it escaped through our decrepit fence (they got it back) and Sam's birthday party at home was coming up so we thought the timing was right now.
So we actually pulled a permit, like you're supposed to, and started ripping down the old fence.
Cracker brought his Tonka truck toy and to help dig out the concrete plugs.
Next weekend they started putting up posts.
Slim was concrete mixer.
Chris was ... supervising? maybe?
(Actually, Chris was coming down with Bronchitis and had an inhaler with him for the next week's afternoon sessions.)
Sam wanted to help so much.
But she was confined indoors mostly.
Cassie spent most of the time playing with her cousins at Grandpa's house while there wasn't a fence. But once the material showed up, we kept her in the backyard at night on leash near the supplies so she could actually play guard dog.
You wanna try to take some wood while SHE is watching you?
Andy drove down from Broward and spent the night so he could be part of the bright and early work crew the next day.
Now there's a good guy!
Finally, July 4th, and it is time to actually put up slats.
Mr. Lenny and Andy worked on one side,
Mark and Chris worked from the other side.
(The volunteer shirt is a Ride For Kids shirt. The official Craven-Meyers work uniform.)
Grandpa supervised all. And worked the saw. And built gates.
And who knows what else.
I played the role of beer bitch mostly. And fed the men folk. And tended the children. Very traditional role for me and a change.
But the fence was done, less than 24 hours before Sam's birthday party!
Woohoo!
